Is Search Engine Submission Needed?

Manual Search Engine Submission

The short answer is no, manual search engine submission isn’t necessary, although submission can be a good thing. The majority of search engines today such as Google, Baidu, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex and privacy focused Duck Duck Go, crawl and index pages by following links from one site to another. As well as internal links within the same website. Despite having many search engines to use, Google still dominates the search market. Please note: Yahoo is powered by and rely on Bing Search Algorithm.

For that reason, a link from other website (inbound link) from any sites already indexed in search engine will help list your page to that engine. Alternatively, links between the same website pages will also be indexed, this linking profile will show up in search. This is why its important to have inbound linking.

Inbound Links

Getting and building back links (external or inbound) and internal link form an important part of any SEO campaign and marketing strategy. Ensuring your website is indexed will help build back links to your website as a valuable mention about your website to search engines. If the page content is relevant or important to the user’s search, then usually there is a tendency among web users to naturally share content link. This forms an important part of the Google search and ranking algorithm.

So, submitting your website to search engines can only help your site, 5 minutes of extra work can will push the correct information you want to share in the search. Rather than Google selecting the information, although it does a great job of selecting the right information to present to the users. Also, keep in mind, you only need to do this once. As if you keep submitting, it wont change how fact or how often your website get indexed or crawled.

Paying for submissions?

Search engine submission is a free, no fee for being indexed by Google, Bing or others. Don’t use SEO companies that charge you an indexing fee. However, what you would be paying for is, the cost of your marketing team time, the service to do the submission.

This is also different to adding your website to online business directories, where some are free and many are paid. But this is a different post and time to discuss further.
